WHY USE A TOWED FOIL?
You’ve probably seen boats towing people flying on a foil board above the water?
Tow foiling is an excellent way to discover the unique sensation of flying above the water, in the simplest way possible.
Accessible to everyone from around 10–12 years old, it's a discipline that doesn’t require wind or waves to start, making it a great learning tool.
The tow (with engine and handle rope) allows you to focus solely on balance and foil control without having to manage a wing (as in wingfoiling or kitefoiling). The lift from the submerged foil wing raises the board out of the water, offering a smooth and silent glide, without the bumps of the chop.
Tow foiling is particularly useful for progressing in several foil disciplines:

Wingfoiling, to work on balance and stance without worrying about managing a wing.

Kitefoiling, to get used to foiling without the stress of the kite.

Surf foiling, by repeating take-off and flight phases on the boat's wake to stay on the foil as long as possible without the rope, using only wave power.

Dockstart pumping, by strengthening your pumping technique and endurance on the foil, using the rope for momentum to practice pumping on your own and stay up as long as possible.
In short, it's an ideal stepping stone to build confidence and transition more easily into the more technical foil disciplines.
WHY TOW FOILING WITH AIRXKITE?
At Airxkite Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) and St-Raphaël (Var), we offer both a simulator with a horizontal side bar that allows you to discover foiling for the first time in a safe and simplified way on the side of the boat (ideal for those who are apprehensive about foiling), as well as a more classic option using a handle to be towed behind the boat and enjoy the wake.
We have all the necessary equipment to match your level and help you progress efficiently. Everything is provided (wetsuit, helmet, life jacket, board) and tailored to your needs.
The Bay of Cannes and the Bay of Fréjus–St-Raphaël are ideal spots for tow foiling, thanks to their beautiful surroundings and sheltered waters.
We offer introductory and advanced lessons departing from Mandelieu (Port du Béal) and Saint-Raphaël (Port de St Raphaël), with a dedicated instructor who will focus solely on you during a private session aboard a safety boat that accompanies you throughout the lesson.
Our three certified instructors, who also teach Kitesurfing and Wingfoiling, will use their expertise to guide you safely through your learning journey.
Their knowledge of foil sports in general (including pumping and parawing) makes their advice especially valuable and targeted to your goals — for example, if you're a wingfoiler looking to improve your freefly technique.
Our school welcomes you in the morning and evening for this activity, from March to October, in private sessions for solo riders, pairs, or groups of three.
Prices are reduced per person for groups of three, so you’ll benefit from a better rate when coming as a trio.
